Please help a motor noob!
Ok, yesterday our main family car failed.
My wife was out and as she changed gear but the gear came loose as if there was no guide for 1st, 2nd 3rd gear etc. It's like all wobbly! She had to get recovery back home but since it's stuck on the drive or should I say the mafia's drive way (don't ask) I can't get it to a garage. I'm hoping it nothing too serious because the car is getting on a bit and it may not be viable for repair. What do you think the problem is? #rings for mobile mechanic#

Sounds like what happened to Rob's car - the gear linkage being broked.
I'm a girl who knows nowt about cars though so I could be wrong Should've cost us £125 or sommat but 'luckily' it happened in the garage while the car was in for something else. BB x |

Yep, linkage most likely.
Basically it's a couple of rods that transfer the movement you make on the gearstick to the gearbox. Normally there's 2 rods, a push-pull rod (think of that as going from 1st to 2nd) and a left-right rod which is used for going across the gearbox. |

Almost certainly gear linkage - usually pretty cheap to repair or replace, just awkward to get to.
