Default 5K/10K times

Does anyone here do any timed races, or time themselves when out running?

I did a 5K race in Richmond Park (RPTT) today as part of the training that P&G employees are doing for a half-marathon (my dad works there). There were 102 people taking part and I came a respectable 32nd, with a time of 22:56. First time I've ever done a proper race and it was quite interesting. I'm confident I could shave time off that result - up to 2 minutes maybe; the course was downhill for the first half and uphill for the second. Made it pretty tough going to maintain pace. Also, I was near the back to start and had to work my way through everyone on a narrow path.

Anyone else know their average 5K time? 10K sounds a bit daunting after the puffing and panting I was doing today!

Something I found funny after the race - the P&G employees must have some sort of expenses allowance for refreshments. They had water, orange juice, Jaffa Cakes (branded) and... Bucks Fizz! This was the bit that made me laugh though:

Random man: So what is Bucks Fizz.
Random woman: [Reading bottle] Sparkling white wine and orange juice.
Other random woman: Of course, proper Bucks Fizz should be freshly pressed orange juice with champagne.

I thought FFS! You're hardly slumming it lady! As I knocked back a couple.

She's right though.

I don't run, the council will invoice people if they deliberately damage road surfaces.

Indeed, but she sounded quite put out that it wasn't the good stuff!

That's not bad considering I've been doing HIIT running for the past three months and slowly increasing my speed over that time (tomorrow I'm going to try 15.5km/h as my sprint speed for the first time!). I'm sure you'd be much quicker if all the cardio you did was just running too. If it weren't for the training I've been doing in the gym I'm pretty sure you could throw a few more minutes on top of my time.

Cool! Don't think I'm quite ready for a 10K yet. I'd make it round, but I'd be flagging seriously at the end.

Got race for life next sunday. We're aiming for 30 mins which we should get. I'm not a runner but my client I'm running with likes goals like these! As long as I manage it I don't care what my time is!

We have 10k training after that for a 10k in sept so I'll let you know what times are for that.

I might start entering some races

I keep wondering if I managed to take a short cut, I'm so shocked at the time
