VERY reliable 1Tb drive wanted.
Right,
I'm going to be upgrading my 500GB drive to a 1Tb drive in the next few months It's going into my NAS box and will be on near enough 24/7 and due to the NAS not being as good as it should be software wise, it doesn't spin down (am trying to rectify this) What are the most reliable 1TB drives around at the moment? And what is the average spin-life of drives nowadays? Ta guys

I run most of my drives 24/7 anyway, and most of those are several years old. Some say this causes more wear and tear. Others say spin up/down cycles cause more wear and tear. Research (source: Google Research) casts doubt on both.

The logical choice seems to be a Samsung F1 drive.
Research into computer stuff is always conflicting, didn't think I'd get a definitive answer on that one.

I've got an 1Tb F1 in my nas that seems to be doing fine. Luckily my nas supports spin down and has checks the health of the drive constantly. Still need another one though as this one is pretty damn full and I'd hate to lose everything on there.

What NAS do you have? I'm sure you said you own this one http://www.ocia.net/reviews/icybox4220/page1.shtml
Which whilst it claims it supports spin-down, it works about 2% of the time, it's the NAS that I have.

Aye, that's the one I have, I know you can change the settings to any amount of spin down you want, but tbh, I don't really think about it that much.
