Default DIY/wood help

Im making a mirror frame out of some figured elmwood, I want to apply a finish on it that wont make the wood mouch/any darker, what would be best for it? Is there anything that would give a gloss finish wihtout darkening it, I tried an aerosol spray enamel lacquer and a matt varnich, all made the wood quite a bit darker.

Is this the wrong forum to giggle about needing help with wood?? lol

I thought you could get just a clear laquer for wood. Although i don't think any product wont make it darker completely.

Luke is probably yer best bet for an answer tho.

French polish it, though nearly everything will make the wood darker/richer.

Wax it basically, as many waxy coats as you can be bothered with. It will still change the colour but keep the darkening to a minimum.
