Default I suddenly have the desire to buy a good camera!

Amazing HDR pictures. What would it take equipment-wise to be able to do this? Presumably it's a mixture of talent, the right camera/accessories, probably some computer work and a little luck?

I completely agree. I saw them a few days ago and was like "Oh dear." A lot of them are everything thats bad about HDR. People taking boring photos and processing the hell out of them so they're "arty." Like the photo of the guy taking a photo, or the car.

To do HDR type images a good setup would be a DSLR, Photomatix to generate the HDR images and some skill / luck. The software isn't overly complex but it allows you to create horribly over-processed images very easily. So it helps to know how far to push things. It may sound stupidly obvious but it helps to take a great photo to start with. Well composed with stunning light. Not to toot my own horn but thats why mine work so well. I often shoot at sunset and the photos are well composed. Often people say how impressed they are that I made a set of traffic lights look amazing.

There area few I like. The fire truck, and the first boat shot. I'm a perfectionist so generally I see errors before good points. Its annoying but it does help when taking photos So like the bridge shot, the clouds are so loud and busy its really kinda distracting. It doesn't quite compliment the bridge. Its basically had everything set to max and imho is just too "grrrr aahhhhh grrrrrr" All imho of course as I know people do like this style. I also feel that the cow would work better without the hdr processing. He's just a bit too gritty for a cow

There are some very pretty HDR shots on this site:

www.hdrjapan.com

It was a bit slow loading some of the pages for me, but worth the wait!

Here's an example: Link
