Smile My Brain

Yester-easter-sun-of-day we were tootling down to Cornwall to see Pickys Parents for a nomtastic lunch.

Now normally on journeys I tend to sing most of the way or just chat about stuff.

However... it wasn't so yesterday.

After about half an hour in the car..

Picky: "You're quiet"

Me: "Eh?"
My Brain: "Uh nuh. You've spent a whole 30mins thinking about this. How silly will it sound if you tell him what you're thinking. Don't tell him what you're thinking, he'll just call you dumb."
Me: "Oh yeh. I am a bit I guess. Just thinking."

Picky: "Yeh? What about"

Me: "Not a lot"

Picky: "Yeh?" *smiles in a "You're silly" way*

Me: *blank look*
My Brain: "Oh just tell him. He might think you're upset or something if you don't tell him."
Me: "Ok. Well..... My Brains squishy. It's just all goo and squishyness and yet... I can think with it thoughts like this. I didn't want to tell you cos I thought you'd think I was dumb for sitting there thinking about my brain being squishy."

Picky: "Hahaha, you idiot!"

Me: "SEE!"
My Brain: *sigh* "No one understands us."

But seriously... think about it people... your brain is just the mush and gooey bits all held together in a lump. And yet you can think thoughts with it and things.

Isn't that just slightly weird? I was a bit overwhelmed by it tbh... well so overwhelmed it rendered me silent for half an hour (rare this unless I'm sleeping) Made my brain ache when thinking about it cos I was thinking about my squishy brain thinking and how it could think what I was thinking... yet I was thinking.

See. Brain hurts now.

Picky thinks I'm silly for this. So I wanted to see whether there was anyone else who thinks it's all a bit crazy - squishy brains and all. Kinda magical it all works isn't it?

It's incredible. I was at a museum (wish I could remember which one it was) and there was a human brain on display. A real one, with small bits sliced off where tests had been done on it after death and I stood there for ages just looking at it, absolutely amazed by this grey blob in front of me.

And another thing, you were thinking about brains? Isn't that a sign of zombieness?

omg omg omg - have you ever seen an MR scan of a brain - its AMAZING!
the department i work in is introducing planning using CT / MRI fusions, and it's incredible the detail you can see! it's more than a lump of mush - i promise!

i like my intestines, they're just so clever, they don't have all the thinky bits that the brain does, but they know just what to do with the foods. i am also a fan of the spine - the way the bones fit together is just sooooo neat - it's like a long, fancy 3d jigsaw

I get a bit weird when I think about the insides of us.

It really freaks me out to think that everyone's got a skull inside their head... I look like that under the pink stuff on the outside.

AAAAAARGH I DON'T LIKE IT I DON'T WANT TO BE A SKELETON I WANT TO BE A PERSON

I know exactly what you mean Pheebs
I've had similar thoughts. Or I've had sudden thoughts of how amazing it is that by random chance you're born to soandso family and in soandso country. Which probably makes no sense written down but basically, just being in mild awe at everything
