Talking Car boot/Spring Fayre Trading (questions and all sorts)

I am probably going to start attending carboots/traders fayres now with my cards! Hoorah!

Just a couple of questions I thought I would ask to see if anyone can help me out!

1. Currently I am marking up x3 (which I think is about right) which means I will be profiting by approximately 80 - 90p per card). Does this sound okie as a starter? I think my cards will be selling quite cheaply at £1.20 odd... but once I get an idea of the market I can play around!

2. Anyone know whether they're able to beak a card display stand (for a table - fairly large too?) Or where I could go to blag one?

(I R on the cheap! After all this apprentice watching I am looking to blag EVERYTHING I can for my business )

3. Public and Product liability Insurance. To trade at my local booty I need to at least have Public Liability Insurance for up to £5million. I get what it is... and have looked on a LOAD of websites... but for the life of me I cannot find any blooming quotes! I think I have about half a dozen Insurance companies calling me on Monday... but off the top of your noggins, anyone know roughly how much dosh I would be paying out for that? (I'm a sole trader selling cards, I employ no one else and currently am making no monies! Don't need insurance for machinery or anything. Just basic stuff). I was curious whether you might know something here Pete after dealing with galleries and things?

I'm so SO SO excited about it. Really am. I can't wait to sell my first card. Kind of wish I had a video recorder as I would like to make a diary of how I do this all and how it's all started and things. Dunno why. Just would like to - think it's exciting!

I am sad aren't I? Getting excited about going to a car boot sale! *rollseyes*

THOUGH! I am also looking to join in the fun with Exeters Art and Crafts season and do a stall there!

EXCITING!

Fankoo in advance for any help/silliness/wubs/abuse

YAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY !!!!
SNAPTASTICO

I do the odd boot sale & have a right laugh whilst doing it. My next one is a week tomorrow as i am doing a daughter/grandson run/visit tomorrow.
My next booty is for my Tax for my Vit so i have a target of 104 quids (99 for tax 5 for entry)to raise. Last booty i did i raised 187 quids Blew the missus & her Pap stool/wears out the water, She only took 36 quids Then she blamed me for taking all her business, said nobody had any money left after i grabbed them.
There are a few tricks/tips/scams to be aware of but none that are relevent to you as you are selling new goods.
Also Public liabilty insurance I just cover my number plate with mud that's my Insurance

£5 million? That's one hell of a nasty papercut.

£1.20 sounds pretty cheap for cards to me, I never seem to escape paying less than about £2 for a normal one.

Best of luck.

I will have around 200 designs printed - about 15 designs

Been looking for insurance again and NO ONE will insure me because I cannot actually do 5million pounds worth of damage (one lady said to me on the phone "the worst you could do is pour a cup of coffee on someones head... and that wouldn't make the 5million mark!)

*hmm*

What an annoying clause.

Will ring the council on Monday, they didn't answer the phones today (slackers).

They won't insure you for £5mil because it's not possible for you to do that much damage? How odd. I'm trying to think of an accurate analogy and can't think of anything.

"There's no possible way we'd have to pay out £5mil so it's no deal lady! Keep your practically risk-free business away from us and don't let us catch you trying to give us your money again!"

Yeh they've been marked up by 3x

I have only guestimated the costings for insurance... but went over the bill from what I have heard.

*hmmmmm*

I know - the insurance thing seems uber stupid. Looking forward to some phonecalls tomorrow to figure it all out!

I have to say I think £1.20 is an exceptionally low price for your cards, but since you are just starting off at that figure then you can always increase it if need be Good luck with the carboot sale

I know its a looooooong way away here, but I think one of my friends was talking about getting a stall and selling her bags in Camden market or Spitalfields.

You would have to up your prices though

I will ask her how she went about it and waiting lists and such like

You're going to have to sell about 100 or more a day to make that worthwhile. Put the price up a bit in my opinion. Make sure you offer something people can't get in the shops to justify the extra price. Also think about diversifying a bit in case the cards alone don't bring in enough trade. I suspect they won't so have some other Pheebs goodies to hand

Mugs, mousemats, diaries, calendars, stickers, t-shirts, car window 'baby on board' thingies all in trademark Pheebs style. You can make all of them yourself as well

I also reckon your characters would make wicked stuffed toys and would be really easy to make.
