Default doggie woes

my lurcher (a collie x greyhound) has bitten a large section of fur off the front of his left leg about 10 inches by 1 inch. hes always licking it but it dosn't hurt him when i touch it.

theres a couple of small sores appeariing on it now but i think thats from where he keeps knawing at it

any ideas what it could be as i'm a tad worried about him

Best off taking him to the vets, they're most likely to know out of anyone

My neighbours' dog does that alot. But then chip lives in a volatile and stressful environment and I dont blame his for essentially pulling his hair out.

The only thing I can suggest is taking him to the vet as maybe it could be a skin irritation or something.

I'd guess skin infection, yes vets are expensive but there are options like the PDSA if you can't afford a regular vet. At the end of the day your dogs health and welfare is more important than a few pints, harsh but true.

Could be mange. My sister's dog had a bare bottom from that. Needs a vet I'm afraid. I feel your pain about the money though!

Then im sorry but I have to ask, why get a pet if you arent prepared for it to not always be in full health.
I am in serious financial difficulties at the moment, but one of my house rabbits was sick last week and she had to go to the vet. I just spent less money at the weekend instead.
Its not fair, but its part of owning a pet sadly.

You COULD take it to a vet although that's going to cost you money, or we could stick an ear on its back in the name of medical research and the treatment it needs will be free

watched a TV show last week where a dog had a problem where it bit a load of fur off and kept licking it and made it worse, the dozy bitch that owned it refused to take it to the vets because she said that couldn't afford it. the RSPCA person that went to visit said she would come back and if it wasn't better and she hadn't taken it to the vet the dog would be rehomed.

she went back a few weeks later (unanounced) and the cow hadn't taken it to the vets still so the dog was put on a list to be rehomed asap.

Chuckles sat watching it with me I think so he can vouch for that

Not for your pet's well-being it's not.

Act early as it will probably save you money rather than having to deal with something more serious if you leave it and your dog is obviously in discomfort.
