Christmas Trees

Why?

Why do we have them?

Who decided that a good idea as a way to celebrate christmas/<replaced pagan festival>/whatever they should put a tree inside their house? And cover it in tat?

Just wondering why we do it really, it's not an entirely logical action really when you think about it.

"Hey, it's christmas, let's put a tree in the lounge"

"They" used to decorate outside trees and bushes, and so I guess that they decided they wanted to see more of the trees so brought one inside.

I also read that it might stem from the Yule Log tradition, where a tree is brought into the house to burn through December.

After making the dog wee outside for 364 days they thought it only fair that he could take a wee indoors for at least a day, As our love for dogs has grown so has the length of time the tree stays indoors.

The reason people decorated em outdoors is cos... i dunno... it looked pretty?

When people first started chopping em down and taking em in-doors i heard they actually used to hang them upside down. The reason for this was, upside down, a Christmas tree looks like a triangle which to them symbolized the holy trinity or something.

These days we just stick em in the right way up cos, well, nobody cares enough about religion these days to bother harnessing a tree to the ceiling i guess? Dunno if it's true, but i tell people it as it always gets an interested reaction which is a step up from my normal standards of conversation.

The idea of having red tinsle is more symoblic than anything else. iirc It dates back to the 13th-14th century Norwegians and Sweedes. They used to have an end of year celebration with various cuts of red meat left hanging from a tree whilst a fire below slowly cooked it.

But not black trees though really wanted a black tree. Had to settle for a massive real tree instead.

I have heard of this weirdness & the Black tree weirdness as well, this can not be good, People think they are Big & clever when they buy them but they are not Big & clever they are small & Silly
On a serious note the Tradition of xmas should not be watered down by fads but should be consistant year after year to evoke past memorys & instal new ones
When they are similar they link together & take you back in time like an old love song
