Default Getting a new job...

Where do you look when searching for a new job/career?

I normally just look about online. If I want something specific then I go to the company's website, or a site like totaljobs.com.

My dad keeps insisting that I go to town to get a local newspaper and he won't have it that they list the exact same jobs on their website... grr!!

Depending on your experience and what you're looking for....

Job Center
Walk around local shopping center looking for adverts
Monster
Specialist recruitment agents
Job section in The Times

Last time I used a specialist recruiter though no idea how you find them as he found me.

Are you looking for inspiration or do you have an idea of what you are looking for?

If the former I would scout around sites like Monster, Jobsite, pop into local recruitment agency et al.

If it's the latter I would undertake some research on local companies in that field - find some details about recruitment and compare them across companies etc.

I'm looking for inspiration tbh, haven't got the foggiest what I want to do

Have been looking around quite a few job websites today, including the local ones and have sent off my CV to a few people. Hopefully I'll get at least one reply

I used to find totaljobs.com was good for inspiration personally. It's how I ended up in my previous job (criminal record checks for Canadian companies, but based in Swansea) and I'd never have thought of it if I hadn't seen the advert

Monster has just upgraded its site... personally I think its navigation is now awful :/ be careful if you upload your details on there... remember what happened in the press recently!

Totally depends on what sort of work you want to do. If I were you I would look on TJ/Monster/Jobsite etc, but I would advise you to do something that you will be able to build on as a career - these days experience is a big thing.

I regret not doing that myself, what did you study/enjoy?

Didn't really study anything tbh, left school at 16 after my GCSEs and been in retail since. Obviously that was a big mistake but not much I can do about that now.

I'm studying web design on a home learning course but am actually just looking for a temp job for now as I've moved house just can't afford to work at my current job with the amount I'm paying on travel
