Yeah there are some bugs in some of the syncing and location features that lead to excessive battery usage.
Turn off sending to apple (bug: crash report loop), time zones & traffic. Also, keep an eye on that location icon. Yesterday my reminders were constantly checking my location. I assume it was because of an old location based reminder I set. Looks like you need to tell it when you've completed the task!! |

I turned off sending reports to Apple and that has seemed to drastically improved battery life, along with turning off WiFi when you aren't using it

I tried turning off everything and it made no difference. In the end I restored the phone with a fresh download of iOS5 and reconfigured everything exactly as it was and it's now much much better. I can't explain why.
I have WiFi and Bluetooth enabled all the time, with WiFi usage accounting for 90% of my daily connectivity (both home and work) and Bluetooth used for probably 5% of the day. I'm connected to my home Exchange server for push emails too so that can't be it.

My iPhone was much better until I put my work email back on it.
Inevitably, personal hotspot severely drains the battery. My iPhone made a capable hand warmer after using that for an hour yesterday! Had my iPhone geniused by a man with a very odd hairdo yesterday. Upshot - rattle, normal and his does it too. Didn't know much about my sync issue (but probably a bug). Siri, definitely a bug there and will go up the chain (almost certainly the same issue I have with Virgin Media), and he's sorted my vibrate issues (by changing settings to what I wanted all along, though I've just undone them so will have to put them back again).
