When Coal thinks he is going for a walk he goes and gets it and walks about with it. He does the same as Sally, SO excited, even when there is no ball in it *munch*.

I'd say lay off the sticks too tbh, its safer not to give them things that splinter.
This week Oscar my parent's apricot poodle almost died because he got a needle stuck into the base of his tongue, he was off his food about a week ago and the local vet diagnosed tonsillitis and gave him antibiotics. He was OK for a while but still in discomfort when eating and as soon as he was off the anti-b's he got ill again refusing to eat or drink. This time the vet x-rayed him and found a needle in the base of his tongue, as you know a dog tongue is a long muscle and it goes a long way down the back of the throat. The local vet tried to get it out but failed and they thought they would have to let him go, in a last ditch attempt to save him the vet suggested the animal hospital in bristol and yesterday he was operated on by a professor no less! He seems to be OK now but its cost a fortune and a lot of grief so I would recommend trying to minimise risky situations. Desmo is right you can't wrap them up in cotton wool but I'd avoid giving a dog anything which might splinter and I'd also keep small sharp objects out of the way as much as possible ![]() MB |

Glad he is ok MB, he was a really character that summer
![]() Hopefully pet insurance should cover it? Which is a thought Pheebs and Pickers, if you haven't already pet insurance is a must. Even small problems can end up costing the earth. |

![]() ![]() I do know someone who's dog died in a similar way to what happened to Trio, when the stick got lodged in the mouth and hit the ground, it hit an artery. Not good! Glad Trio is ok though ![]()

In my opinion, she is a modern miracle. The first example of a supposedly advanced life form that doesn't have a brain..! She's getting on a bit now, 10 people years, and yet she still barks at the rain. She was the runt of the litter and has never really grown, she's still tiny, so much so that last summer next door's cat beat her up!
