Really? I'm going to watch it again before I score it but I'd already give it a higher score than that. Having worked out what was really going on I still found it extremely clever how it played out, especially thinking back over scenes I'd already seen having got to that point.
Maybe it helped that I knew nothing about the film before I saw it except that Leonardo DiCaprio was in it. Didn't even know it was a Scorsese film until the credits.

Go back and watch the trailers now and I think they give a bit too much away and probably would have detracted from my enjoyment a fair bit.

Amazing film, and so far ahead of its time it's scary. Peter Lorre plays a childkiller being hunted by police. When they start getting heavy-handed and investigate too far into the criminal underworld the criminals take it upon themselves to find him instead. Performances, direction, editing, story... everything is wonderful. 10/10

Malice in Wonderland
Lom typed the wrong thing into Demonoid... Actually, it's a grown-up twist on the Alice in Wonderland story. Danny Dyer is Whitey, the cabbie who's late. The Cheshire Cat is late night DJ Felix Chester, Harry Heart the homosexual gang boss recently released from prison hostinghis "coming out party" is the Red Queen (geddit?!?)and Mad Hattie is the madam of the mobile brothel. Apart from the cheesy reunion at the end, I liked the dark twist on AiW. 7/10

A Clockwork Orange
I'm really not a fan of Kubrick. That said, I can understand why this film is as revered and as controversial as it is/was. Malcolm McDowell is excellent in it. 8/10 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Don't like Charlie Kaufman either. 'Being John Malkovich' was great but I find his work very difficult to access on the whole. Solid performances and suitably disjointed. I like the idea of moving memories around and trying to combine them to avoid them being erased, and the special effects when this was happening were very good. A satisfactory ending, but it felt like the sub-plot was leading to nothing right up until the very, very end. Probably intentional but I found waiting for it to be a bit grating. Still, 8/10.

+1. Good movie and a great piece of entertainment. These days you don't find yourself rooting for "the bad guy" very often. |

This weekend we watched:
Push Which wasn't as good as I was expecting it to be couldn't stop thinking Heroes rip off all the way through. 6/10 Old Boy Soooo many people have told me that this is a good film. Its quite dark and arty but wasn't as good as I was hoping. I've seen a couple of Jap/Korean films so knew what to expect, but was a bit disappointed. 7/10 The Happening Nothing really happens. 3/10 We have Be Kind Rewind and Role Models to go - lets hope they are a bit better. Hurrah for Blockbuster's 5 for £5 rentals BB x |

I enjoyed role models.
It did what it was supposed to. I like both of the leads and the chemistry between them works well. It had me laughing in all of the right places and it passed the acid test. If I'd feel uncomfortable watching it with my mum in the room, it's a good 'un |
