New trainers for my 8.5k route tonight. I think I might regret this tomorrow...

Good luck Coach!

My last race is Run to the Beat in October. It starts at 945 and I want to do it sub 2hours.

After that we have a wedding fair to drive to back in Brighton which finishes at 3.30! fun times!

No pressure to PB then.

When you're done with the race Coach - perhaps some tips on what I should be doing to get this sub 2 hour Half PB please? <3 <3 <3

Really enjoying running again! Had a running partner for a few weeks which meant a different pace (steadier than usual) and more motivation. Found a few new routes and breaking my knees in gently.

Did 5 miles this morning in 43 minutes with some nasty uphills, but feeling better for it!

Managed a 10km today for the first time. I went at a slow pace and got 59:15. Even though it was double what I'd been doing, I found it easier than doing 5km at a quicker pace.

And have just entered the Reading half marathon as well

I didn't think I'd take to it much, but it's really good fun. Only 53 days from my first C25K session when I couldn't even run 1KM without stopping. It's amazing how quick you can get your body into shape.

Anyone considering it but a bit nervous should really go for it.

Yesterday's 5 miler went pretty damn well considering, so I'm very pleased. It wasn't a PB by any means, but I maintained my pace well below 8:30, which was my aim. Time was 40:59 on my watch.

First mile was a nice steady 08:15, but I developed some piriformis pain (hard to describe if you haven't had it, but runs from your arse down the inside of your thigh... really painful) during mile 2 and dropped to 08:30 min miles for 2 miles.

I was trying to pace a new runner from our club, but at this point I told her that I would have to slow down. I plodded for a while and suddenly it felt like it was easing and off I went again. I'm not sure quite what happened... maybe it was my racing instinct kicking in.

I did mile 4 in 08:03, catching up with the girl I was pacing again and told her to come with me. Last mile was 07:39, which is pretty much my race pace when I'm in tippity top condition. I felt like I was flying and even managed a sprint (well, for me anyway!) finish because one of my club members shouted "you can have her Kate" to me in the last 100yds, so I overtook the lady in front of me.

Piriformis is absolute agony now and I'm walking like a cripple, but it was so worth it I stretch it religiously every single night (along with about a billion other muscles), so I'm not too concerned about it. It'll sort itself out. Very happy indeed with my performance though. It's a big mental block out of the way and a sign hat my injury is on the way out. I didn't have a peep out of my knee all the way around. Think I might be able to start putting hillwork and speedwork back into my training plans now
