Just a quick note of something I spotted for anyone thinking of buying the upgrade version, such as the £30 Student offer:

http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/win...ows-7-faq.aspx

Quote:
Upgrade versions require Windows XP or Windows Vista to be running on your computer before installing Windows 7. Full versions of Windows 7 don't require a previous version of Windows to be running on your computer. Both upgrade and full versions contain the same features. If you want to format your hard drive when installing Windows 7, you will need the full version. In general, choose the full version of Windows 7 if you don't have a previous version of Windows on your PC. Choose the upgrade version if you have Windows XP or Windows Vista on your PC.
Not a huge in itself, this however would bother me:

Question: What if I need to reinstall Windows 7 and only have an upgrade version?

If for some reason you need to reinstall Windows 7 and have the upgrade version you will be required to install a previous version of Windows before installing Windows 7.
So if you have an upgrade copy and wish to do a reinstall, you'll need to install XP/Vista again first...

*hugs full retail version*

Wasn't that the same that was said about Vista Upgrade?

In the end you could still do a clean install from an Upgrade disc.

I've copped an MSDN key for Windows 7 Ultimate so I want to cancel my order but the broken web site isn't letting me.

You can do a clean install with an upgrade and completely remove the previous install (such as if you need to go from 32 to 64 bit, it won't do an upgrade, it will do a clean install) BUT it will only do so from within a prior Windows supposedly, it can't be booted from.

I'm not 100% sure and i've no idea what was said about Vista as I never paid attention to that but from what it says on the blog, it sounds like the upgrade versions could be pretty crippled to me.

Well there's a result.

PC World just called me to say my card had been rejected. Of course it was rejected, it's a pre-payment Mastercard and I get paid tomorrow so there would have been enough on it at the time you're supposed to take the money (ie despatch time) rather than a week in advance!

So I was able to cancel the pre-order that way. I also told them that the website is a bit broken.

Looks like at least some are trying to ship orders out early. They may have just attempted to authorise the payment. Still, you got the result you wanted.

Just noticed I only got two copies of Pro - not the three I thought I'd got. Oh well, I don't think I need a third copy. We'll see.

64bit unless you have a decent reason for going 32bit.

I'm not bothering, RC is running fine, so until I change some hardware or need to reinstall for some reason staying with the RC.
Got 1 copy from pcworld, waiting for another 2 from amazon.
