Prince of Persia - Sands of Time

Wonderfully silly with some great action sequences and top class eye candy for men and women. Oh and Jeff from Coupling is in it which I thought was utterly brilliant!

Only let down by the occasional dodgy bit of CGI and a plot as flimsy as Ann Summers lingerie.

7/10

Haha I noticed Jeff too! Watched this again yesterday & am removing a point because Jake didn't get his kit off half as much as I remembered. This was a disappointment so down to 8/10. Still awesome though

Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read!

In the flashback at the end on the ferris wheel if you slow the action right down you can see a pod come hurtleing down from the sky and splash into the water presumably the origin of the monster.

End Spoiler Alert!

However the movie itself was pretty lame as you say good concept but something missing from the mix.

Just watched this, thought that shot was so obvious that I was expecting to see something but couldn't make anything out. Film overall wasn't great, i'm not one who likes my plot spoon fed to me but it really could have done with something to fill the story out a bit more. Even if they just bookended the main film with some sort of military briefing or something it would have felt more complete.

Iron Man 2

Was ok, in comparison to the first, the first one was really good. I didn't get:

Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read!

Mickey Rouke's character - I thought could have been linked to Tony Stark - did I miss something? As it appears that he's just a total random, with the knowledge to build machines like Tony...

End Spoiler Alert!

It was ok. I like Scarlett and Gynweth and RDJ. Easy to watch.

6.5/10

Mickey Rourke's character's father helped create the original arc reactor with Tony Stark's father years ago. But Rourke's Dad was corrupt and tried to sell the secrets to some dodgy country (then got kicked out of the US for doing so) while Stark's wanted to use it for other means. This meant that Rourke's father died in poverty albeit with the relevant blueprints which he handed down to Rourke to develop with the aim to destroy Stark.

End Spoiler Alert!

That's from memory so I might be slightly inaccurate somewhere but basic gist of it

GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra

This has been recently added to netflix streaming, and I was looking for a random film to watch last night.

Oh dear.

About 1/4 of the way through I commented to Kari (who was doing homework) that I couldn't figure out if it was cheesy good or cheesy bad.
It got worse.

The writing is atrocious and the plot even worse, though the acting is reasonable. You just can't polish a turd though.

2/10

================

Invictus

Set around the fall of the Apartheid regime and the rise of South Africa as a nation, culminating in the 1995 Rugby World Cup. Mostly the film is about the nation and the people with the sport being just the pivot around which the film revolves.
Good acting, Morgan Freeman does a superb job as Mandela. Matt Damon does a good job as the captain François Pienaar. There wasn't much for him to get his teeth into though. Brilliantly directed by Clint Eastwood, a man I'm gaining great respect for as a Director. He picks his films well.

8/10 - Slow mo in the rugby matches to highlight tension was irritating, but solid film regardless.
