I'd bet it takes a lot of practise, I can't even remember the colours on the controller

Me neither. For the cut scenes in Tomb Raider you have to press the right button at the right moment to avoid death. Don't think I did any of them first time!

There really is no real answer to that one, as it's all down to personal preference. Do you prefer front, rear or all wheel drive cars? Do you prefer to have something vastly superior to everything else, or do you like having an equally powered car and winning through skill? There really is so many ways to approach each set of races that it's near impossible to give out proper hints as to what cars and upgrades to buy.

I will say though, that in the start it's better to upgrade your car just enough to win. There's no point spending huge amounts of money on upgrades as you'll win so many cars throughout your career it's unlikely you'll stick with one for a huge set of races (unless like me you have one particular car you love, but you'll know what to do when you get that anyway).

Ah, a bit like the original Gran Turismo where I basically use a handful of cars that I like and ignore the rest.

The game is very like Gran Turismo (but better IMO), but because of the number of restrictions set in place for races you'll need to use more than a handful if you want to win every race series, as often you need a very specific car to be eligible to enter a series. I like that as it makes you use cars you might not bother with otherwise, and you may find a lovely new car to drive.

The spoilt thing struck me last night, tried to get into Shadow Run. Played 3 training missions and have stuck it back in the envelope to go back. I mean yeah it's a good idea with the magic and stuff but it was just another shooter. Call of Juarez is currently on the way and should be a good laugh.

I got Madden 08 through the post last night, and ended up with over 700 points from 2 matches. The achievements are so much better than Madden 07, they take more skill but you can easily whore them by adjusting everything in your favour. I love good US Football games anyway so it's a good rental so far.

DiRT is proving to be a pain though. It's reminding me why I've always preferred street/track racing as the random bumps and jumps you get in rallying means that you can end up flying off and totalling your car no matter how well you drive. It's a little frustrating at times, but I'm going to perservere and get as many points from it as I can. Certainly don't think it's going to be a 1000 point title though, it will take more effort than I'll be willing to put in.
