I'm amazed at the size of this thread.
My next door neighbours wife recently had her leg amputated and then died of cancer but she hasn't been mentioned by the prime minister, yes this is a sad occurance but the level of national grief this has provoked is stagering. She was a very thick woman who should she never have been on TV (and she never should have been) no one apart from her close friends and family would give a toss about. Sader things than this happen every day, the sheer volume of cash spent on people buying tributes to the lovely Jade, (who let me remind you was universially hated for years) would have brought some relief to many suffering families nationwide yet people splurge money on buying flowers to send to a woman who they never knew to show how close they felt to wonderful Jade, it really bemuses me :/ MB |

I don't understand why people who have never even met Jade would buy her flowers, why not donate the money that would be spent on flowers to cancer research.
I understand millions are dying from this disease along with other nasty illnesses but its the fact its right in front of us and we can't escape it because its everywhere. My aunty is just healing after having boob removed because of breast cancer its scared the poop out of me that my aunt had it and it could spread luckily it was all removed I just hope to god it doesn't come back. |

Agreed with the whole national grief thing (ie buying flowers and feeling overly emotional about it). With it being so fore front in the media, I certainly empathise for her and her family, but I would be the same with any family who suffers from the dreaded big C.
I'm guessing the length of the thread is a lot to do with how shocking it is she managed to achieve so much lime light for who she was. In some ways, I think it's a good thing she did become such a celebrity as it has brought about some good with the whole cervical cancer awareness. *shrugs* |

Its wrong that the awareness of needing smears younger than 25 has only just come about because of Jade.
Its also wrong that schools are only just talking about how serious it could be and how important smears are just because its in the media about Jade, it should have been done years before Jade came along tbh. Jade was mentioned in parliament because they are trying to lower the age from 25-20 I think? so I guess because they have been discussing smears I guess Jade was spoken about a lot that why she got mentioned by the PM *shrugs* Still, it should have happened years ago as she isn't the 1st to die from cervical cancer and she sure isn't going to be the last. I was never taught at school about cervical cancer but now they are told everything their is to know about smears all because of Jade. |

I think it's wrong that only 2% of these cases are people under 25. So for the amount of expenditure that will go towards paying for these tests... will it be worth it for such the small % of cases?

I really, really don't care. Any sympathy I may have had swiftly evaporated when faced with the grotesque and artificial media bandwagon which has ensued, fuelled by the idiotic and fickle general public, the 'Life in 10 headlines' article summarises it perfectly how sickeningly hypocritical the gutter press are being about this whole issue. Good riddance to 6 years of utter retardedness.

I read that article too - and unfortunately, you're right.
