Meant to play Resistance this evening but spent 2hrs playing Shatter instead

Shatter is so addictive and I love it. Brilliant combination of Arkanoid and a side scrolling shoot em up. I don't tend to get hooked on games that are simply about working your way through the game and getting a high score. Much more of a story based game sort of person now. But this really is good fun.
Playing it through once then plan to go back to it to beat my high scores and my friends's high scores.

Played Resistance for about 10mins: graphics have aged badly but looks interesting.

Garnett Lee and Sam Kennedy having been banging on about Shatter the last couple of weeks on Listen Up. It sounds cool and I think I'll be checking it out.

I was a little apprehensive as I'm awful for buying games online and then hardly playing them, but it really is the sort of title that you turn evangelical about and want to rave to the world about how much fun it is

They were awful to begin with, I was gutted when I put it on (particularly as I'd played Motorstorm first). The graphics do improve as you go through Resistance though.

Ahh that's not so bad then
I nearly bought Motorstorm instead of Resistance but stuck with it as I prefer FPSes.

I won't be playing that now though as Batman: Arkham Asylum has finally arrived I should have had it Saturday but it got sent to the wrong reviewer's address (namely someone who hasn't got a PS3) and he didn't post it my way until yesterday :/

Even towards the end of Resistance it's nothing compared to its sequel in terms of graphics. Naughty Dog have essentially been the PS3 research department for Sony this generation and when Resistance 1 was being made they were still only in the early stages of developing Uncharted. Basically Insomnic were on their own thanks to the crappy devkits Sony gave them to work with and the complete lack of research into the architecture.

This basically applied to all games on the PS3 until Uncharted was nearing completion and Naughty Dog published their research findings for all to see. At this point the PS3 took a pretty big graphical leap for everyone as they had more to work with. The difference in having this research and not is perfectly demonstrated in the difference between Resistance 1 and 2, it's literally like night and day. I wouldn't be surprised if you could trick someone into believing they're on different consoles.

Apparently Guerilla Games and Naughty Dog have added 'considerably' to the devkits and programming techniques documentation for the PS3 in the last year, including things like heavy use of the Cells SPUs for preprocessing for the GPU. I reckon it'll be interesting to see what comes up in the next year.

I'm yet to play Shatter, currently got my teeth stuck into Shadow Complex and looking forward to my copy of Blue Dragon that i ordered for £7.50 new ages ago (while out of stock on the off chance they would get more back in) which has arrived.

My PS3 should be arriving today with a bit of luck, so this evening I hope to be bouncing between inFamous, Uncharted, MGS4 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma

Graphically NGS was a bit of a disappointment, there's moments when you can tell they've just copied and pasted some of the original xbox textures and models (specifically some of the areas in the city). It's a shame as it looked so damn pretty in the village at the start of the game, then they clearly started taking short cuts.

Gameplay is still amazing though and the framerate never dips below 60fps which is nice. I'm really hoping they manage to apply said framerates to sigma2 too as the drops were incredibly annoying in NG2.
