Things like EEAs your body cannot be synthesized and hence has to be taken as a supplement to aid recovery and muscle regeneration. It's not vital to the average diet, but for anyone doing exercise I see it as quite important part of the recovery process.
However, you dont' need them. Lots of fluids, fish oils and good sources of carbs and protein are essential - though I guess you do need higher carbrotein ratio owing to the fact you need the energy. However don't underestimate the requirement for protein - it's not just for building muscle, it helps with recovery and the immune system etc...
