Xonar was what I was tempted by but finding one with the right combination of inputs was my problem (I've got the breakout box for my Live card so anything is going to be a cutback).

I would have expected people to tell me I am certifiable for preferring an aged Audigy 2 to an expensive high specced X-Fi Elite Pro?

Nah, those Audigys were pretty solid, as were a few sound cards back then IIRC, I can't say I've even looked at the market for a few years, ever since they started integrating 5.1 with SPDIF out into motherboards, been using that.
I had one of those Aureal Vortex 2 cards with an optical out ages ago, then Creative bought them out IIRC and the brand died, lol - ahh memories

Creative sued Aureal, Aureal won but due to the cost of defending themselves they went bankrupt so Creative bought them out
