The issue was that mine only has 7 notches and none of the symbols are visible.

My parents have a similar oven fitted in their kitchen, albeit a two oven one with an LED display on it. Never seen those two weird cake and omgwtf icons before though! How bizarre.

For using the oven the Fan symbol at the 35 minutes past the hour position on the dial should do the trick.
