Your game of the year: Batman Arkham Asylum(PS3)I got to say that this game really blew me away in how it was presented. If you take it at face value it could get very repetitive given that how you play the game can be repetitive. That said there was enough innovation to make it fresh. The touch of genius was when it looked like the PS3 had crashed and I was like WTF then it just moves onto another part of the story.
Single player gaming experience of the year:As above Multiplayer gaming experience of the year:I have to stick with Call of Duty Modern Warfare(PC). I have really warmed to shooters on console but I still favour PC over console. In a landscape of really average shooters cross platform, COD4 Still stood head & shoulders above everything else. Not without it's faults but it still delivers. Biggest Letdown of the year:Joint Ops - Dragon Rising. On the face of it a really great idea. A step away from the arcade style shooter(COD4) focusing more on squad play than the rank of grind grind grind. Yet it was awful. Truly awful. Huge open game worlds gone to waste with poor lazy coding. My understanding is that it was equally as bad on console as PC. Surprise of the year:L4D2. Whilst everyone was expecting another vanilla follow up this is springly good. Not a lot to say other than i'm really surprised how good this actually is Game or gaming innovation you're most excited about for 2010:BF:BC2(PC & PS3)Will be getting it on both platforms. I still think there is an itch that needs but hasn't been scratched since BF2 came out and I really think that BC2 can do that. Xbox Live Arcade game of the year Not gave the X360 the love it deserves this year. PSN game of the yearFlower : What a wonderful game experience completely different than anything I have experienced. No guns, no bombs, no action no...........................the norm. Favourite game of the decade:BF 1942(PC). In it's own right a very very good game but it spawned the single best mod ever Desert Combat. I got to say It had that mix of a fantastic community, great game play and the perfect balance of infantry and vehicle combat. Also made some very very good friends through BF1942 & DC. |

WAIT!
I've changed my mind! My GOTY 2009 is.... Brutal Legend. Ok I'm only 2 hours in but I've not had such fun for years. It helps I'm a 30 somin' who used to be really into Metal and I've not had too much RTS to do yet but the vibe, story telling and general gameplay rock my soul |

Spose I'd better write some stuffs here!
*cut and paste* Your game of the year: Batman Arkham Asylum Hands down easy choice. The story the pacing. The Scarecrow levels. EPIC! Single player gaming experience of the year: God of War Collection Two excellent single player games tearing (quite literally) through Greek Mythology. Best bit is I'd missed them both first time around so finally getting to play them is amazing Multiplayer gaming experience of the year: Forza 3 Only game I've really played in MP this year (however brief) was Forza 3. Cracking few races with some of the guys at the GT17 LAN - great fun until the router decided we weren't allowed to play together anymore! Biggest Letdown of the year: Skate 2 So much promise but somehow didn't feel as fresh as the original, Also had some of the most simple challenges hampered by moronic AI. (Both do a certain grind type at the same time, only problem being the AI skaters fell off more than was funny making the challenges....tough... Surprise of the year: Batman Arkham Asylum Besides the previously mentioned points this a game (for me at least) that came out of nowhere, from an unknown developer. Impressive work all round Game or gaming innovation you're most excited about for 2010: Rock Band Network Not content with the largest DLC support campaign for a title ever now the crazy guys over at Harmonix will allow anyone (for a fee) to submit tracks for download! Now even the very smallest of bands can be heard! Xbox Live Arcade game of the year: Trials HD Pleasing on the eye, simple looking but equally one of the toughest games I've ever played! PSN game of the year: Wipeout HD/Fury What's not to love about Wip3Out speeds, weapons and some tracks I've never seen before (having skipped the PSP offerings). Eye bleedingly gorgeous Favourite game of the decade: Deus Ex 'Nuff Said!

Until a couple of weeks ago I didn't have access to a gaming machine, most of my games playing this year has revolved around Kongregate.com!
So... what is your favourite game that has come out this year? Torchlight. Good fun without feeling too repetitive like Dungeon Siege (suspect more because it's no where near as long.) Doesn't take itself too seriously either. Your favourite single player gaming experience. - Protector III. Kari will attest as to how long I spent playing that game. Favourite multiplayer gaming experience. Not really done anything on line apart from a couple of games of Team Fortress 2. Your biggest letdown of the year, be it a game, hardware or some innovation that disappointed you. - Not sure I have one specifically. My ongoing one is that 3D gaming still isn't that popular. I bought Nvidia's 3D Shutter glasses based solution years ago. The only reason they weren't that great was because of the number of badly written UIs in games that would float around all crazy like and unusable. Some games were just fantastic with it though, and it's nuts that it's really taken this long (what, 5 - 6 years now?) for it to start to surge into popularity and offer serious potential. The difference really is astounding when you play your first game in 3D. Your surprise of the year, again be it game or hardware. Not sure I have one. I'm loving the flash game revolution, and the increasing numbers of decent open source game engines. It's lowering the cost bar and allowing the indie companies to get back into the field. The game or future innovation you're looking forward to in 2010. Nowt specifically. Finally as we've come to the end of a decade, if you fancy it, what's your favourite game of the decade! Toss up between Deus Ex, and Baldurs Gate 2 for me. Probably the former. It is one of my favourite games ever.
