I'm not assuming anything here, I'm saying that I can't see it being worthwhile when free software is good enough. If OpenOffice is comparable with MS Office(and from my experience it is as near as damnit) then Tesco would have to do something special to make me even consider it, I don't know if they are going to do an antivirus but Avast has never given me a moments problem and I've also been using it for a good few years now. For DVD/CD creation I use Nero which I get OEM mostly so again they'd have to be exceptional before I'd consider it.

If Tesco does produce great products then that is fantastic but I rather hope they don't simply because I think they are getting to be way too big and I'd rather see them overstretch themselves here and have to consolidate to produce a good core business than continue to grow and end up with them being the ubiquitous company that does everything as they appear to want.

I don't equate Tesco with quality I'm afraid - call me a snob or whatever I don't care . A supermarket is really starting to take the piss if it's selling AV software. I'd rather stick with companies that invest millions into research and development for antivirus solutions. Of course Tesco might well do the same - but it shouldn't. It should be spending it's money on either getting better quality products, improving their stores, paying people more or investing into charity.

Then again I hate supermarkets and would much rather they brought back local butchers, farmers markets and green grocers with decent quality products.

Next thing they'll start selling clothes, dental services, opticians, car mechanics, general practices... I mean they already do banking - frankly it's lamentable.

Ah, but you know this, Joe consumer doesn't. Someone spied an opportunity.

I don't have any antivirus - or a firewall.

Never have done, and my PC is fine *touches wood* so I think if you are fairly savvy, which most of you are obviously, you probably don't need anything at all.
