Do I sense a 7D in the offing? Race ya!

Actually, whilst I'm definitely going to upgrade, I'm not in any hurry. I only tend to use my camera for specific events rather than all the time so may as well wait until I next need it before upgrading, as it'll only get cheaper. Might crumble before the end of the year and the VAT hike tho

Same situation on all counts. Keep thinking about the move myself. I don't use mine much, but when I do, I really do - though I don't intend trying any more shots from six miles away! That one was definitely a one-off

Still debating 7D or 5dMkII, I don't shoot much wildlife or sport so the 5D would be the way to go for the FF quality but it's a substantial investment, also would mean coming back to the 24-105mm and other L FF lenses. So at the moment its a bit of a stand off and I'll stick with the 40D, it's a great camera and if I'm going to keep it I will probably spend the money to have it calibrated against all the lenses just to make sure it's spot on

My Dad has just bought the 5dMkII. It's absolutely astonishing and I'd forgotten how magnificant FF is. He has the 17-40L and... well... WOW!!

I've found myself a few times wishing I had full frame. 17mm with a 1.6 crop factor just isn't wide enough on some occasions.

Been toying with the idea of getting the Tokina 11-16mm for a while. Might give that a try before splashing out on FF.

Never had any experience with FF (save a few compact 35mm cameras back in the day). Probably just as well!

Given my lack of skill, I don't want to go too mad (i.e. dropping £1.6k is mad enough, thanks!).

God the 24-105 is good, sorely tempted with a 5D now :/

That's the trouble with L glass. Once you start buying that on a whim, you're already too far gone.

I'm in kind of the same boat as you Matt. The 7D looks like the totally logical upgrade from my 40D but, although it's a superb camera and better in loads of areas, I'm starting to question whether it's "different enough" or whether I ought to look into moving to FF at some point.

FF would be a huge upheaval as I'd have to sell two of my three lenses and then buy the body and at least one new lens, plus I'd lose the wide end, at least to start with. I also tend to shoot action stuff like motorsport from time to time and realise the 5D would be useless at this compared to the 7D. I'd also lose a lot of reach.

Basically, whenever I try to think about it logically, the 7D wins by a country mile but something keeps nagging at me saying I should make the leap of faith.
