Maybe its just me then, but I prefer big budget American SciFi like the new Battlestar Galactica, Stargate and B5. I just can't get passed the tacky looking aliens and things. I need a great story to be backed by a great score with great acting and great production. Like I said about those 2 shows, they work as British scifi because they are designed to be cheesy. British scifi that tries to be serious just looks cheesy and doesn't work.

How'd you get on with the latest Doctor Who then? Murray Gold's score was absolutely superb (if a bit loud at times)

On the whole its ok. I don't really recall much of it. Its not something that was memorable for me. The score on the new BSG series is beyond fantastic. I love music thats dares to be different and it is. It adds so much to the show. Speilberg said it best about the Back to the Future score, that without there would be no film. The score is the film. I have both BSG soundtracks and listen to them quite a lot. The music in Farscape was also very well done, as was B5's. I've got as much B5 music as I could afford when it was out and there are some tracks I just can't bring myself to listen to from the final episode. Unfortunately the Dr Who score doesn't do anything like that for me. Its just there, nice background music. Maybe its because the show is lighthearted and sometimes cheesy so I can't fall in love with it like BSG/B5's emotional rollercoaster.

Hmmmm. It was very British Scifi. Cheesy fx, an attempt at a "cool" Range Rover by adding neons and bits, and well I dunno. Some funny moments and interesting bits but its no X-Files. We just can't do Scifi. It always seems so amatuerish especially when the US produce shows such as Firefly, Farscape, BSG, Angel and Buffy. Real character driven shows with great emotional rollercoasters.

Reading some of the comments on the web seems to confirm that RTD just wanted to add sex and swearing to Dr Who. I'll keep watching and hoping that it progresses.

It's repeated tonight I think and then on BBC2 on Wednesday?

I enjoyed it, I still think it's trying to do X-Files a bit but not really sure that it's there. Won't be letting the kids watch it though which will really give young master Feek the hump as he's a big Doctor Who fan and has been looking forward to this for a while but he's just turned 11 and I think he's a bit young for it!

I hope the Sky HD box hasn't thrown a hissy fit and not recorded it, guess I'll find out on Saturday.

As Mic was on nights and I was not feeling well, it has been taped using old fashioned VHS.

We'll probably watch it tonight or tomorrow night but I don't mind lending it out if people can get to see it/miss the repeats/etc

Will have to wait until Wednesday to see it - been looking forward to this.
I was a bit miffed they put it on BBC3 - bloody BBC, make a show I want to watch and then put it on a channel that only 70% of people can access. When they make something good with my licence fee money (well, my employers money), I'd like to be able to watch it straight away and not second hand I'll have to spend the next day and a half trying to avoid spoilers.
