Consider the Seat Leon as well - it's a Golf with a funny badge and different body but you'll likely get newer for your money too

Indeed - Skoda Octavias are no doubt lurking around for this sort of money too.

All based on the Golf platform.

The Golf is the most expensive of the lot purely because it's a Golf though, the Bora is definitely a good alternative for less money. Inside they're identical.

Fabia VRS are a lot of fun, but interior (even top spec) won't quite have the same feel. Those immeasurable things here and there...

Fabia is a whole class of car smaller though, akin to a Polo rather than a Golf.

It isn't that much of a difference. It is only 150mm longer in length. There is still plenty of leg room, even in the back, even my 6ft 4 brother can get in the back. I have a 1.2 Fabia Sport and for a small engine it is pretty nippy. They are just as good as VW after all they are made up of Audi/Seat/VW parts.

I've agreed to the bora. Had a little drive in it & very happy with the deal.

It's an 03 1.6 with about 75k on it. Drives well, just been MOT'd & taxed to jan. I got £400 for my polo which I bought 2 years ago for £1k & have since done 40k in to take it up to 130k miles so I class that as a ridiculous offer!

Total for the bora then is £1600 & hopefully if I can get my stereo & mic removed tomorrow I can go pick it up

Sounds like a decent enough buy that - the Golf/Bora is a decent solid car, nice and comfortable if not the most exciting drive in the world
