Well the performance I was getting was shockingly bad so I uninstalled the thing immediately. I might have to shell out £50 for a 400MHz machine at this rate :/

Did you install VMWare Tools as well?
I could probably give you a 400MHz (well 550MHz) machine. No HDD in it, but I have spares (albeit loud spares). |

I don't want to have to steal one if you have a use for it, but if its about to be thrown away I'll take it
![]() Loudness shouldn't matter, this will purely only be used for games, old ones at that. An old-school Sound Blaster or 100% compatible and a 200-600Mhz processor with some sort of cheap graphics solution should do it. When I asked at some local place they said they wanted £50, £60 if I wanted speakers and a KB/mouse. What does VMWare Tools change? I must admit I only used the standard program and didn't look at patching...

VMWare Tools (install after Windows 98) speeds up the graphics some.
The system is sat in a corner gathering dust. Hasn't been powered on for a few years so I'm not sure what state it's in. I don't have a spare soundcard for it, but I think it has something in the way of onboard sound. Also have a P100, but that's probably too old. ![]() |

P100 is just outside of the ballgame, but if you don't want the 550, I'll gladly take it and anything I'll need to power it on my end

I'm heading to Kent at the end of the month. Would have to sort something with Mr. FS and/or Mr. MB, but it might be a possibility and would save shipping costs (and the possibility of it getting knackered en-route). Depends where in Kent you are as well I guess.

Aye. A not unreasonable proposition, and saves cluttering up with another PC you'll barely ever use.

Can Win98 take SATA drives, bearing in mind I do not possess a floppy drive?

If you set the BIOS to do PATA emulation, yes. That's pretty much what the option is there for.
