Ooooooh, is the 1710 good? I'm convincing my friend to buy one thats on the MM for £1400 (check the MM is probably front page or at most 2nd) Seems an excellent laptop, and as you say it retails for around £2050-2100 from dell... Reckon i could get cheaper from him, he lives in glasgow (next door on the train basically!) and my friend will pay cash in hand... Is it worth pushing him?

I think the MM's the only thing I miss about my membership over there.......then again it's probably saved me a fortune from not being able to impulse buy

I would go for it, mine's bloody good - I haven't found a game it can't play at max res yet and that one is better than mine. If you're mate can afford it and he'll get the good out of it, I would do it if I were him Stan

I'm saving some money aside for the Dell 2407 (A04) which Zirax bought a while back... Currently around £410 plus P&P. I like that fact it has a native resolution of 1920 x 1200 with 1:1 mapping.

My only experience is with the E195 which is last year's model, but just from that I'd be a little careful with the value range if you're into gaming (as I know Mic is). The E195 suffers badly from slow response times, and while it's OK for word processing or web browsing, gaming with it wouldn't be too clever. I suspect that Dell use previous generation panels in them, so hopefully the E207 uses panels similar to the 2005WFP which was at least competent at gaming.

Had a bit of a look around and the Samsung SM-206BW seems to be a decent choice in that sort of price range. I couldn't find any professional reviews on it but the end-user comments I found on some sites seemed to be quite complimentary - might be worth a look.
The cheapest place I could find was Komplett who are selling it for £199 + postage (£6.75). A lot of places are out of stock but Komplett had 7 in stock when I looked. Stan
