I finally got The Darkness through on rental (delayed by 3 days in post due to the strike) and I can't wait to play it!

Well just played the demo of Overlord and really enjoyed it, something nice and fresh, one for the rental queue without a doubt

Just completed The Darkness and for me, it's definitely one of the best games I have ever played, certainly the best in the last 24 months and probably my favourite since Max Payne 2.

It just checked all the boxes for me.
Graphics
Audio
Music
Voice Work (exceptionally good)
Characters
Story (Interesting and Original)
Environments
Weapons
Game Time

It also has that something else that just lifts it up a level. Like I said, for me personally it ticks all the boxes and I'd give it a 9-9.5 out of 10, a crazily high score for me. I'll write a review up on my blog in the next couple of days.

One thing I can't understand is the 7.8 and 8 out of 10 scores on IGN and Gamespot respectively, it baffles the brain how it's so low, especially considering some of the ****e they give really good marks to. If it was made by Id, Bungie, Epic or such it would have had a lot more publicity and definitely a higher mark.

Possibly to leave themselves room to score Bioshock higher, if it lives up to the hype.

That would make sense.

my one problem with consoles such as the 360 are that I cannot ever for the life of my get used to a controller for an FPS... 3rd person is fine, but I just cannot get used to moving and firing with sticks.. despite years of trying.

They're definitely getting a lot better. Whilst you can't ever really get the accuracy of a mouse and keyboard I do feel more competent now playing FPS's on a console. A bit of practice and some intelligent targeting from the game and I've become a lot more comfortable with it. FarCry was one that worked well.

Oh, and I played the Overlord demo this weekend. Seems like a nice little game with a lot of character. Definitely interested in some of the puzzle solving logistics.

On the Xbox360? That was known as being one of, if not the worst ever when it was released as well. I believe they released an update because, well, they had to.

Maybe I got it after the update then, or maybe my skills are better than I thought! I found it quite forgiving in that if you could get the crosshair near enough to the target you'd get the hit. Unrealistic, but countered the lack of accuracy just the right amount I felt. Plus for a lot of the game you could use feral skills, which was hand-to-hand anyway.

It must have been after the patch then. I know they recieved a lot of praise for the quality of the update, so that would explain it.

I think I'll dig my copy out. I have a massive 5/1000 achievement points .
