Adobe Reader 6 was slow as hell to start for me. 7 was OK, but 8 is even better if you can live with the new interface.
As for printing problems, dunno what they are. I use Vista + Office 2003 myself so if there's anything I can help with. |

I'm running 7 so I'll see if 8's any better.

I have a few things pause, wireless networks menu is the worst for it. If you click on something midload it gets that semi-opaque white screen over the program. It's annoying.
Never had any problems with Office 2007 though. |

That's the kind of thing I'm getting Ah well, guess I'll either live with it or retreat back to XP.
Usually I don't print a huge amount, just have to at the moment with some job applications.

Don't get much of that myself, but then I'm running on an E6600 with 2GB RAM, so it doesn't tend to hang around much.

Ooohs at the e-penis
Mine doesn't hang about much with anything else, just printing which is why I figure there's a problem, not just a matter of lack of speed.

Would be if it were mine, but it isn't (it's work's).
Printing is a tough one because it can be anything from drivers to how the printer is connected to the software, and as it's drivers this is one place where a Windows XP to Vista upgrade can contribute to problems. What's guaranteed is that the more printers you have configured the slower it gets, so have you removed any unused printers etc., particularly if you had the machine at uni? Removing excess devices from device manager may help too, though I'm not sure if the environment variable 'trick' you had to do to be able to do that on Windows XP still works on Vista. |

It's only ever had one printer networked to it. It's a fairly clean system really device wise, just got the bare minimum. I didn't upgrade it, brand new system so couldn't have got messed up through the upgrade process.
I'll see if different drivers help.
