I'm the same; thought he was a grade A moron at first but his standup is actually pretty good. The media have given him a bad rap, and if you can get over his brashness and his propensity for being overly-verbose, he comes across as generally a nice chap.

Edit: Haha! Just realised that last bit is a bit hypocritical! 'He's a nice guy, but has a propensity for being overly verbose...'

As a tv presenter he was rubbish, pointless and irritating. I now find some of his stand up quite funny.

Tbh I don't have an opinion of him at all - don't think I've seen / heard him on anything

I don't like 'him' (from what i've heard of him)
I don't find him funny on tv (presenting, or on panel games etc)

but his stand up is hilarious!
like Jasper said, it had us both in pieces, and we'd had a pretty crappy day (with Jaypeg being ill and whatnot)
so he must do something right!

How about, after this post - if you haven't seen him but don't like him, reserve judgement until you have. I didn't like him before the standup, but he actually turned out being very good.
I'm going by what i have seen of him on tv presenting and on the radio.
I love stand up, I'm going to see Bill Bailey in November and I'm really looking forward to it. Have also seen Ross Noble's stand up and Billy Connolly. In fact i used to go out with a stand up comedian, so spent far too much time watching a lot of professionals and novices, i know what i find funny.
I just think Russel Brand is a moron and don't find him funny, i am allowed to think this.

I was talking about the standup, as stated in the OP. Also, Bill Bailey's jokes are based solely around making funny noises and being stupid. Same with Ross Noble.

No one said you weren't allowed to think what you think, but your justification makes no sense whatsoever. Don't see what having been out with a comedian has to do with it.

The justification is personal taste. I can't stand Brand, and I've seen his stand-up. I think Billy Connolly is hilarious though.
