You don't even need to dock, although it's advisable. If you disconnect in space, your ship warps 1,000,000 km in a random direction and then vanishes after a minute.
You fly one ship at a time, but there's no limit to the number you can own apart from how much money you have to buy them, or the skills you have learned to be able to fly them. Subscription can be as little as USD39 for 90 days. At the current exchange rate that's rather good.
