I found that one at several sites but, to me, it isn't something that in 10 or 20 or 30 years she'll hang on to...I know it is for a kid, but it just seems a little too kiddy if that makes any sense...

I think i might get Georgie that music box for her 2nd birthday aas its so sweet and i still have my box i had when i was 6.
I like the fact it has a heart on the front which is ideal to engrave who bought it and when.

I really like the other ones but i think they're too grown up for a 5yo.
well they are for my friends girls but its hard to tell as some girls are very grown up aren't they?

Although I agree that the ones Sam and Mubs posted might be a bit old for her right now, they're something that she's more likely to keep as she gets older. My Mum made sure that anything precious I was given was always looked after so that it would still be in good condition when I got old enough to appreciate it.

There's a very pretty one in the link that Mubs posted that has a ballerina on the lid and inside. I had a ballerina musical jewellery box when I was little and I loved it. Unfortunately, it was a kiddy one so I didn't look after it and by the time I reached 15 or so, it got chucked. I'd definitely go for one of the more grown up ones if it's something you want her to cherish.

For a 5yr old girl i would buy one of those Superb Dolls houses
Never forgotten & always kept & a real Special present if you get the right one. If not that then check out Anything from the Little Tikes range of toys, like the Pram, completly indestructable & Superb toys.

That's pretty much my line of thinking. If I get her a cheap kiddy one, she'll not want to keep it when she grows up. If I get her a good quality non-kiddy one now, she should hopefully look after it, knowing that it's something special and it'll hopefully be something she'll treasure as she gets older.

Malc, I bought her a huge dolls house for her christening gift - she loves it and plays with it all the time.

Im going to buck the trend a little here but how about a little trust fund? I know it's not something tangiable that she can appreciate now but if she has a nice little lump sum coming to her when she's 18/21/whatever she'll be thrilled Im sure 5 year olds have very little appreciation for anything...in fact come to think of it 10 year olds dont have much more.

Just a thought

That's a better idea in my opinion Pebs, I'm going by experience of LMF when she was five and certainly had no appreciation for quality items.

She already has one. She has more money in the bank than I do
It was started when she was born and is intended as a college/university fund.
