Three words: Cheap foreign labour.

Seems to be all the rage these days - in both sectors.

And no, the government's purse strings are not stretched by the staff who do the menial day to day tasks to maintain the country (nearly wrote cuntry there ), it's stretched by the stupid decisions which the government make.
I saw that one coming, and had the response ready - where did I suggest that was the case?

No.

Cheap foreign labour is utilised by local governments as contractors, not employed directly as public sector workers. The reason they are employed is because local governments are getting less and less money to run their services. The remainder of the money goes to central government to be spent on the entire country (or stupid things like idiotic wars).

Elucidate.

It'd never happen anyway. The problem is simply this - those who would desert the public sector eventually need the services just as much as everyone else. In the short term, if it happens, so be it. It wouldn't be the first time.

Do I really need to? The identity of the person (singular) responsible should be obvious. The sooner he packs his bags and heads back to his own country, the better (and that is not a racist comment).

No, it wouldn't. The difference is that this time most public services are not actually run by local government, merely contracts being managed by local government staff.

That's a big difference.

Yes, because one man can bring down a government, can't he

Aw, don't do that.

I should point out that I agree with you on a few key points. Firstly, that I think anyone who decides their own pay should have a bloody good justification for why they think they're worth that much, and to me, MPs don't - the pay alone I wouldn't have a problem with, but it seems they can pretty much build a second home out of the perks. :/

And, secondly, while I believe no-one has the right to a payrise, at the same time, no-one should have to take a pay cut on the back of Government incompetence.

PS - yes, one man, and a lot of spin doctors singing from the same misguided hymn sheet. Add around 60 million sheep.
