I saw a woman on London Underground who was wearing a Burqa, glasses, and an iPod nano (strapped to one arm).
I'll admit I was curious, and I'll admit I looked several times. In the end I had to force myself to move away because I was getting uncomfortable doing that, never mind her. It's human nature to want to study something that is unexpected or unusual. Same goes for rubber-neckers or I'm sure countless other things. Some parts of society certainly have a problem with disfigurement and disability. No question there. I agree however, that it isn't fair to label all of society with that tag. |

It's what I think, not that it would lack compassion for any individual. There was a good programme on BBC1 last night about a girl who was born disfigured - she underwent surgery to have her skull realigned. I think she'd say the same thing, people will stare.
