The vaccine is actually delivered in a course of 3 injections, research shows that if you want a child to have the whole course the best place to organise it is in he school as this is a place where (most) children can be found on a regular basis. Trial carried out outside of schools have shown a significant rate of non-completion making them much less effective.

This schools stance is idiocy in my opinion as protection form HPV is by no means a reason to engage in sex, young people do not think 'oooooo I'm protected from cervical cancer I think I'll go and and do loads of shagging!' In fact a lot of young people don't think about it at all whihc is exactly the reason these vaccines are so important.

I'm 3 years too old in Scotland they are doing it up to age 17 in schools for the vaccine now and i wish i wasn't, cervical cancer is a silent killer and with the numbers of young women bothering to go for smear tests at an all time low it is vital that they have some form of protection. The schools stance is idiotic, girls don't think about the dangers of receiving a virus that can give you cancer, no one teaches you about that its all chlamydia and HIV. Promiscuity doesn't even need to be involved if the partner they marry and have children with following the no sex before marriage guidance carries the virus.

To put this into context, this is taken from the Cancer Research UK web-site:
Quote:
From September 2008, in the UK, girls in year 8 at school (age 12 to 13yrs) will be offered the HPV vaccine. The vaccine the Government has chosen to use is Cervarix. Girls have three injections over 6 months given by a nurse. A letter about the vaccine and a consent form will be sent to the parents of the girl before she has the vaccine. It is up to her whether she has the vaccine. There will also be a 2 year 'catch up' programme starting in Autumn 2009, to vaccinate girls under the age of 18. The NHS immunisation website has more information about the vaccination programme and when girls in the catch-up programme will be offered the vaccine. (Link)
In order to be effective, the vaccine must be given on three separate occasions over a six-month period. According to these Roman Catholic school Governors that means three visits to her local GP per patient is more appropriate than the opportunity to vaccinate a whole group at one time.

Frankly, I feel that the Governors should be sacked and put on the Sex Offender's Register so as to ensure that they are never again involved in any way with children - I would feel exactly the same if it were a Jewish, Islamic, Scientologist, Jehovah's Witness or non-religious school. The Governors are an absolute disgrace.
