Stan, there's one problem with your line of thinking : Household glass cleaners are used for cleaning glass.

When it comes to cleaning car windscreens, there's one small problem : The inside layer is plastic. Hence why when the windscreen breaks you don't get showered in glass. So when you buy automotive glass cleaner, you're actually buying a cleaner for plexiglass and other forms of transparent plastic.

Doesn't alter the fact that my household glass cleaner cleans my car windows perfectly well for a fraction of the price

I thought it was 2 layers of glass with the plastic binder in the middle?
