Surely the density of the foam simply means it can take more load and consequenty, this will affect the necessary thickness?
I've tried out the Tempur memory foam mattresses and it seems that the only difference between the thicker ones and the thinner ones (apart from price!) is how soft they feel, or how "sinkable" they are.

If you have a Costco card they sell decent ones there, thats where I got mine from for less than £150.
Its lovely, but if you're a hot person it'll take a bit of getting used to.

lol then you'll be smokin'! You'll get used to it but there'll be a few nights where you'll chuck the duvet off and think 'who's idea was this?!'

It doesn't surprise me that there's another metric involved but generally speaking, the density is going to affect the necessary thickness and isn't necessarily a one-to-one relation to quality depending on what you mean by "quality". I have plenty of examples of memory foam in my armoured jeans and various bike gear and it's lightweight and thin. It does seem very dense as well.
If you try out the various Tempur beds, the salesman explains that the only difference between them, other than the price, is the thickness of the foam and the required thickness depends on personal preference and the weight of the person. I'm pretty sure they even do dual-thickness versions for couples who require differnt levels of support.

We sell ones at Dunelm Mill if you can get yourself to a store. For a King size bed it's £120 IIRC.
The manager has one and she loves it! I've been at her house an napped on it before going out once and it's awesome! |

Yes, QVC. If you avoid the countless jewellery and beauty hours, some decent stuff does turn up occasionally. Anyway, can't comment on quality of those items so YMMV. I've got a pocket sprung mattress with a memory foam topper, and a feather topper on top of that. When I'm not suffering from insomnia I sleep rather well, but it certainly makes for an interesting experience trying to get up. |
