Just got back from watching Ed Byrne: Crowd Pleaser. OMG amazing my face is in pain, it was that funny.
Lost my phone though, well I think it may of been nicked. Luckily it has the android swipe lock thingy and I have the battery Ha , But I expect there's ways round that. Just gone through and changed all my passwords for stuff I've had on the phone, stupid smart phones and blocked imei number.

I am so utterly jealous that you got THAT close to him. When I was 11 I was either gonna marry him or Chesney Hawkes.

Enjoyed an evening of live music in Bristol's Thekla last Tuesday courtesy of Mr Dan Sartain.

Support was from hardcore/screamo band The Computers who suprised the whole ship with one of the most energetic and equally eratic sets I've seen of recent times- their energy was infectious and reminded me of the early days of Biffy Clyro, Gallows and At the Drive-in.

All clad in skin tight white shirts and skinny jeans (yes I know but bear with me), the lead singer was rolling, running and diving amongst the crowd, sliding along and falling behind the bar, clambering across ceiling supports and generally rolling around like a nutter. This contrasted with the almost entirely static, expressionless (yet clearly quite talented) band members on stage; the drumming was incredibly tight throughout. Personal highlight for me followed a 2 minute high-speed hardcore punk screaming track, where the band announced "We. Are. The. Computers.... and we're from DEVONNNNN". This band could well be one to watch if you're into the something noisy, their youtube videos and spotify recordings are severely lacking compared to their superb live efforts.

The following support act were a nonchalent, three piece punk band whose name escapes me- this will not be a problem as they will not be worth researching. Despite the female vocalist's best attempts at getting people to sing along to "I hate my life and I really want to die" (catchy huh?) they held no stage presence or relationship with the audience; their non-conformist faux punk attitude did little to help such and the overall result was a swallow dive of atmosphere The Computers had done so well to build up prior.

Finally on stage lurked the gaunt and scary looking* Dan Sartain, his Deep South drawl welcoming everyone to get as close to the stage as possible for what seemed to be an intimate gig. One man and his guitar knocked out about ten songs in a fairly vulnerable fashion that reminded me of Johnny Cash - particularly the track 'Replacement Man'.

For the second 'half' of his set he was joined on stage by none other than the drummer and bassist from the second support act!... NOOOO I thought but I must admit enjoying the stark change in tempo and (to the use the technical term) 'Oommphf' they brought with them.

Unfortunately using a punk outfit to backup Dan Sartain resulting in a huge style change for some of his songs- rockabilly dancing music became distinctly punk and he was guilty of cutting most of his later songs much, much shorter; tempo changes, live performance and improvisation is all fine by me - in fact, i love it - but not when 3-6 minute songs are hastened to 2 minute efforts and banged out like a chore-ish to do list.

So a mixed bag of a night but a very enjoyable evening amongst live music and friends is never going to be a bad evening
