E-mail is actually case sensitive if you look at the specifications for it, and some mail servers will treat Vix@ differently from vix@ if it finds accounts with both exist. It depends on how strictly standards compliant they wanted to be.

Guilty! I've done this several times. Learned my lesson though - If it's a voluntary thing, I just don't make promises at all.
