Attack the Block.

Utter Tosh 2/10 Hated all the characters bar one and the visitors looked like the 'hug in a mug' from the old bachelors ads crossed with a fancy dress shop gorilla. Least scary thing I've ever seen (although admittedly, I'd not want to wake and find one standing at the end of my bed)

Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read!

gutted they all didn't get mashed by the aliens

End Spoiler Alert!

Transformers - Dark of the Moon

Who would have thought it, a plot that makes even less sense than the previous two put together. Luckily Michael Bay knows how to make things go bang so disengage your brain for 2 hours and 25 minutes and keep another source of entertainment on hand (BD on a laptop for example) for the first hour whilst he is doing the 'plot' bit.

Green Lantern

What a very strange film, I've not read the comics so not sure if it's trying to adhere to them but the plot doesn't really work in the film which is a shame as it's reasonably good fun. Some good booms and bangs but the first 40 minutes should be done in 10 minutes to avoid the boredom that sets in.

Transformers 3

Dear god this was awful! After all the talk of Bay recognising his mistakes in the second film and not repeating them, this was actually worse again. Totally boring storyline that failed to hold my attention and even the action scenes were getting a bit tired and 'samey'.

Captain America

Held my interest but took a long time to get going. They obviously have to do the origin bit but took a bit long doing so. Once it got going it was better but still all a bit 'silly' really IMO. Have to say the CGI used to make Chris Evans look short, skinny & gaunt at the start was utterly amazing and totally convincing! Was like his face on a different person.

Flypaper

Actually really enjoyed this! Original concept, very well done with some good comedy moments thrown in as well as the intrigue. Highly recommend it.

Captain America

Agree with Toby that the start was too long which is a real shame as it felt like they ran out of time at the end and compressed too much into a short timeframe leaving the story feeling a bit disjointed and very rushed. Still the SFX were brilliant and there were a suitable number of action scenes and explosions so I was happy enough.

From Dusk till Dawn

Well the special effects in this film have ages very badly though probably not helped by even the lowest budget modern films having access to computer effects that they would have killed for in blockbusters in the 90s but that aside this is still a fun film.

I think what really makes the film is the humour that runs throughout that had me chuckling through most of the film. Well worth revisiting.

Attack The Block

You know those fancy special effects I mentioned that budget films have access to, well someone forgot to tell the Producer/Director of Attack the Block. Not a horrific way to spend 90 minutes if you have nothing else to do but certainly not worth going out of your way to watch this film.

It was the worst film I've seen in a long, long time. The aliens were laughable!

The Swimmer

Trippy, random, slightly uncomfortable but ultimately cool. Starring Burt 'Mr Muscles and Teeth' Lancaster who looks incredible especially considering he was 52 when this was made. Great performance from him and a surprise appearance from Joan Rivers (has she ever looked young!?).

Brief Encounter

Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard are excellent in this. Quite ahead of it's time with how it portrayed adultery. I've always thought there was far more to this film than it being just a love story.

Perfume: The story of a murderer

Jean Baptiste has a remarkable nose, and lives for scent, both good and bad. He needs to learn how to save smells.

Not my usual type of film, aquired on a whim, watched in bed with Lom.
