I'd recommend http://www.cstrike-planet.com/tutorial/1 for a set up guide. Same site as I used to sort out 1.6 issues in the past.

If you've got any questions, let me know.
I don't know a huge deal (I bluffed my way through figuring out the 1.6 server for a lan but it worked ) but two brains might sort it.
Plus I can ask some friends within my clan who do know this kind of thing.

I'm only running on half a brain today.. do you think 1.5 brains will be sufficient?

That's exactly the same site I used for both 1.6 and :S server setups, both are independant downloads and will work without Steam. 1.6 is about 300Mb and :S is around 800Mb.

I've got quite used to playing around with the server over the last few days, it's fun!

As long as I don't end up running on half a brain, yup

I just noticed there is a Linux version of the server so I'll probably end up shoving CS:S (and Q4) onto my new Linux box when the hardware arrives.

I'm getting the impression this is worth a purchase then? Not had a good fps online experience in a while. Back in the early Americas Army days actually.
