The Lazarous Project
I found this a really good watch. It's not action packed and fast paced but much more of a slow and thoughtful type of film, yet it's not too deep. There's some solid acting and whilst the plot was a little predictable, there were enough little twists to catch you and it was nice to watch something a little different.

8/10

Raging Phoenix

Thai martial arts film.

A violent gang is abducting and killing women around Thailand. Sanim and his friends have all lost family members or wives and have joined together to break the gang of kidnappers. Deu/Dew (played by JeeJa Yanin, the name is inconsistent in the subtitles) was the target of a kidnapping attempt but is saved by Sanim's crew and decides to join them, learning their drunken style of fighting so she can exact her revenge.

Reasonable film. Once again demonstrates that extraordinary dedication to their art by Thai fighters. Much like you see in films like Ong Bak, the stuntmen and actors are taking some very real blows.

Reasonable plot, it's not really going to present any major surprises. Reasonable way to pass a few hours.

6/10

Hugo

ReAlly miffed I watched this (well an hour 20 of it as I decided to give up and go to sleep... Sam persevered though). It had the makinngs of a good film, some lovely set designs and costumes but BY GOd what a horrendously poorly organised film. The boy kid was a lovely actor but Sam wanted to poke the girl in the eyes!

I would advise to avoid unless its background noise as can be pretty at a glance. Very disjointed.

Hall Pass

For some reason I had assumed this was about some middle-aged guys going back to school. No. Idiot. It's about some middle-aged guys getting a pass from their marriages to do what they want for a week.

Some laughs, not as bad as I thought it was going to be, and surprising to see Stephen Merchant in there. The funniest part was his little bit right after the end credits start.

5/10

Actually, for those who will never be bothered to watch it, here's that scene:

Trust - 9/10 (few little niggly bits that stopped me giving it a 10)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1529572/

Quote:
A suburban family is torn apart when fourteen-year-old Annie (Liana Liberato) meets her first boyfriend online. After months of communicating via online chat and phone, Annie discovers her friend (Chris Henry Coffey) is not who he originally claimed to be. Shocked into disbelief, her parents (Clive Owen and Catherine Keener) are shattered by their daughter's actions and struggle to support her as she comes to terms with what has happened to her once innocent life.
Loved it. LOVED IT. Clive Owen (and the rest of the cast, to be fair) was SUPERB.

Going to suggest this in the 25 films bit. Which needs updating.

Limitless.

Phil sold it to me by saying 'it's about a guy that can do stuff'

Well, it is, but I like the story and idea. It's well filmed and well acted. A few times I said 'why doesn't he just do ......' but then thhe is either an explanation or a reason, so it ties up a lot of questions. The end is open though and I'm not sure you are meant to believe what he is saying... 7/10

50/50

A random one that came through Tesco dvd rental. There are parts that are funny with his mate, but to put this in the comedy bracket is not right. It is about one bloke who gets diagnosed with cancer and focusing around his fight and the effects that it has on others around him. There were some aspects that were skimmed that are really haunting. Personally I recognised a lot of stuff that rang bells.

Good film, not what I was expecting at all.

8/10

p.s. I would have counselling if my counsellor looked like that!

On more than a few occasions Kari and I were a little confused that he hadn't done the obvious. Like a) Secure a source of the drug (would have been one of my first steps after the initial WOW stuff), b) focus on improving it from the get go to avoid the side effects and make it more permanent. Even from early on he had the resources to do so, and better yet the intellect. Instead he wasted it prissing about with the stock market and impressing morons, drawing attention to himself when it wasn't necessary.

End Spoiler Alert!

I was rather nervous about this adaptation as I really enjoyed the book and the Swedish film from a couple of years back. I must say that I really enjoyed this version, Daniel Craig does a good job as do the rest of the cast, the changes to the plot are minor and don't detract from the overall plot and the story moves along at a good pace.

The rape scene is rather uncomfortable to watch (Miss DL left the room) but then it's not supposed to be nice, you may want to fast forward through it.

End Spoiler Alert!

Saw this at Cineworld and they had a false fire alarm part way through the film (so slow to evacuate we were still queuing!? to get out one fire exit when they realised it was "safe" that's another issue though) just after said scene. They apparently did us a favour by rewinding to just before the said scene, so we wouldn't have missed anything. Honestly never heard such a loud simultaneous groan in a cinema when everyone realised what they'd done. Morons operating didn't once engage their brain obviously.

Even after their monumental failure (how much a ticket cineworld!?) it was still an amazing film to watch, which I guess goes to show how good it really is....
