I've been warming to the iPhone, especially after a few of the changes with the latest software and knowing that TomTom is on it's way....but now having played with Sinead's a little, I'll be getting one. Only thing is I'm an impatient bugger sometimes

I'm stuck on my Orange contract until Jan next year. I phoned today to see if I could drop it down to a lower monthly cost and then just run the iPhone on O2 PAYG which is what I'd be doing long term anyway. Only problem with this is that Orange can't release my number like this as it's tied to my account so unless I cancel and cough up £170 to buy it out, my number is stuck there.

So my only option it to buy an iPhone, jailbreak it, unlock it and use my Orange SIM. Once my Orange contract is up I can cancel that and get my number ported to the O2 PAYG sim.

Hhmmmm, what to do!!!

I'm waiting my contract out, Jan is ideal in some ways, Jan & 18 months will take you through to the next revision +1, I'm, an impatient bugger too as you know but its just too expensive to be giving mobile phone companies money for nothing

Having had this for a few hours... OMG I LOVE IT ! It's just so neat and easy to use

It's awesome and I'm so glad I've got one

Just need to wait for my number to be ported over within the next few days and I can start actually using it as a phone

On just the software front? Surely there won't be any new hardware changes by then.

Well, since June 2007 there has been:

iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3Gs

That's one per year basically

I'm on a computer.

That's how Apple have always done it Consumer electronics should get cheaper, but by releasing a new version every 12 months, they can keep the prices higher. The iPod's been very successful for them like that

Much like most Apple hardware, hardware updates are fairly regular/dependable, i'll be very surprised if June/July 2010 doesn't see a new iPhone.

They operate quite differently from the rest of the consumer tech market.

OK, that's fine. But the market is always like that so you have to buy at some point otherwise you're always waiting.
