I was 26/27 before I worked out what I actually wanted to do, and its taken me until last month to get around to starting the training in order for me to get the qualifications so I can do what I want to do.

Yep, that's exactly what I mean. I've been continuously employed in the IT industry for the last 15 years, most of that at management level. I've been trainind to expert level in ITIL v3 Service Management, I work regularly on major projects with 6 figure budgets, managed teams through serious upheavals (we were outsourced 18 months ago, for example) and work with a range of technologies from legacy inhouse developed middleware to VDI.

However, a company just told me I was unsuitable for interview because I don't have an IT degree. I'm 42 years old. If I had taken an IT degree it would be 20 years out of date and taught before the invention, or at least mainstream implementation, of Microsoft Windows, the Internet, ITIL Service Management, SMS, 3G, Smart Phones, VoIP, Virtualisation, WiFi, Ethernet switching, Cisco Systems, the CD-ROM, IDE Hard Disks and God knows what else...

But apparently a degree is essential for this job. I can only presume there is some secret technology that is only available to those with a degree that the rest of us have never been informed about...

Sounds like I'm in the same boat as several people. I'm either over-educated because I went to university, or under-educated because I don't have a degree.

But my degree would have been in Aerospace Systems Engineering. I'm sure that Microsoft Server 2008 uses a huge quantity of aerodynamic equations or structural property information in it's daily operations...

So, stuff the IT industry. I'm happy to be out of it...

Now, I just need a job...

People who feel it necessary to post very graphic images of animal violence, or things of a similar nature on facebook!!

I had a friend who I blocked and still haven't spoken to 2 years later after she had a miscarriage and posted very graphic pictures on facebook.

Tonight I sat down with the laptop while the children are happily sat either side of me watching the Simpsons, to be greeted by a very graphic image of a decapitated rhino. The person that posted the picture happens to have a 9 year old son who has his own facebook account and will no doubt have seen the picture too either on his own account or on his Mum's.

There really is no need for people to do this!

Blackwall tunnel - northbound has full GSM and Radio coverage (they've added repeaters inside the tunnel). Southbound, NOTHING! Grrrrrr.

How annoying!! It must have taken him longer to send the email than it would have done to do it himself.
