Im in two minds(not for the first time) about the Royal Family. On the one hand they are an institution and in some respects contribute to defining who we are as British or English People. On the other hand they are so far removed your every day Mr & Mrs Average then you have to ask what do they contribute other than the big tourist industry.

I take my hat off to Prince Charles for the sterling work that he has sponsored through the Princes Trust. That is work that undoubtedly has helped change some peoples lives through his position in society.

Closest I came to meeting the Queen was a few years ago. My Mum had been a civil servant for ages. Although she was only a court usher, she had been recognised by the Barristers, Judges, QC's and Magistrates for the work she had done in the Childrens Court. She was nominated for one of them public CBE or MBE things. So with that, her and her family were invited to Buckingham Palace for the presentation and then afternoon tea with The Queen. Unfortunately I couldn't make it. As my Mum is a big Royalist, it really was the highlight of her career and something that makes me very proud of her.

I am with Dym in the respect that we should have a Monarch with some cahones and should help in shaping and leading the nation in conjunction with our elected Government.

Though. I dared him to wear a cowboy hat when he met her and offered £100!! He said no (thank Lordy too as I don't have £100 )
I'd be proud too. I think the cowboy hat would have gone down a treat!
