She's above your usual calibre of "Celeb" who will turn up to the opening of an envelope wearing a thong.

Anyone dying at that age leaving kids behind is sad. Anyone dying full stop is sad. She was a talented actress but I'm sure there are lots of other talented people in their own fields of work/life that die at the same age or younger every day in this country and throughout the world.

May I ask why the UK seems to be obsessed with the deaths of celebrities? Is it an outlet for our guilt?

What would you suggest? A response of "Yeah, whatever."?

I think that a far more interesting question would be why people in general (not just in the UK) seem to be obsessed with the lives of celebrities?

In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance.

In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.

Even 'Joe Public' gets a mention in the paper these days if there is a stabbing/car crash etc so why shouldn't they?

That's pretty much my response to the deaths of the majority of celebs. I really could care less but it'd require effort I don't want to make.

Mind you, I'm a heartless b'stard.

LOL! Yes that's probably a better way of putting it thanks. Why are we so obsessed with the celebs?

Not generally on national news though and there are so many of them these days I'm sure only high profile ones come to the fore.

It's all this outpouring of grief for someone somebody didn't know that gets me. I can understand friends of e.g. a 16 year old who has died from whether it's leukemia or being stabbed piling up floors in some place but why do we do this for celebs we didn't even know?
