Synecdoche, New York.
Really weird film that I still don't quite fully 'get' but I do know I liked it Bit challenging to watch but that's what made it a pleasant change. Philip Seymour Hoffman was particularly great in it, but then again he always is.

Boondock Saints. Bought this on a whim years ago and it's a bloody brilliant film. Two Irish brothers get caught up in the middle of some bother and manage to wrangle their way through the mess. Brilliant appearance from the dad who is played by someone who I'll keep nameless as you'll not really be expecting it.
Just a great film.

Great film, and the idea came from a set of trading cards.
One of the cards was banned in the states I believe as it showed a herd of cows on fire, a scene they got into the movie within the first 3 mins or so

I dunno I have seen loads of the films in this thread... maybe I just watch too many films though there are one or two suggested here I definitely don't want to see
Anyhow, I'm never sure what films aren't very well known so I will just go with ones I loved but not many people I know have seen: Tengoku to Jigoku (High and Low) The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou Zatôichi Shogun (ok not a film it's a mini series, but hey ) |

I thought everybody had seen this
Or am I just too old and remember it from first showing on TV EDIT: My film would probably be Yojimbo. I only know a couple of people that have seen it. Although I suspect a few on here have. It's another Kurosawa movie that "inspired" a western. (bonus points if you know which one without using IMDB )

I thought the same, it wasn't until I was watching it in hospital recently nobody seemed to have heard of it. Then I realised it was probably an age thing that they didn't remember it from the first time round So all of us oldies have probably heard of it.... maybe it's just nurses and doctors who haven't seen it

Shogun is very very good, right up there on a par with Roots, everyone should have seen both of them!
A film that I love which nobody seems to have heard of is Summer School. It's an oldish film from 1987. Here are the two plot summaries from IMDB: "A high-school gym teacher has big plans for the summer, but is forced to cancel them to teach a "bonehead" English class for misfit goof-off students. Fortunately, his unconventional brand of teaching fun field trips begins to connect with them, and even inspires ardor in some." "When the teacher who is suppose to teach the Summer remedial class, decides not to do it. The Vice-Principal, who is responsible for Summer School, ropes Freddy Shoop into teaching it, and he is not an academic teacher. And all of the students are not exactly willing to meet him half way." It sounds terrible but it's not. It really is hilarious, a superb movie and I laugh like a drain whenever I see it, I can't recommend it highly enough!
