O2 put a notice out about a "special, time limited" deal for 02 customers in the middle of a current iPhone contract

I think if I had a 16gb+ 3GS I'd be less inclined. But since I have an 8gb 3G then it's quite tempting. Considering my contract ends end of August the timing is perfect. I have my O2 open code which will get me 30% off as well (if it's still active, it was last time!).

My regular 3G works well with bluetooth, certainly works with my car kit...

I presume you mean for the handsfree stuff? Do people actually use bluetooth for file transfers?

I use it to put pictures from the phone onto the laptop, and vice versa, oh and songs. And I use it to send other people pictures/files too.

It's funny because my old W880i that finally died a death recently had a front facing camera that enabled me to make video calls over 3G if I wanted to (not that I ever did, even when I was phoning people I knew who could do video calls). My gut is telling me it's AT&T that's screwing Apple with the wifi only restriction.

Apple don't like wireless syncing. Never have done. You have to physically connect it to sync files back and forth, even though people have produced apps for jailbroken phones that demonstrate it's perfectly possible to do it.

Bluetooths never been an issue for me - I plug it into my laptop every night to charge, at which point it automatically syncs the photos/etc onto my laptop and vice versa.

If I ever need to send a file to someone else it's always through email or MMS - both of which cost zilch (mms are classed as 3 x sms with o2)

That's a shame, but I do use skype on my iphone a lot so if it supports the camera it'll be amazing!
